Signs That My Evaporator Fan Motor Needs Replacing

If your refrigerator unit is not cooling the insides like it regularly does, and the fan on the back of the inside wall is either not running or not blowing cool air like normal, it might be time to replace the evaporator fan.

Check for Obstructions

First, it is ideal to check if any obstructions are limiting the fan blades from rotating properly. If the blades are not spinning freely, then it is likely that the motor bearings have worn out and need replacing.

Check Electrical Path

Another pre-replacement check is to use a multimeter to ascertain if there is a constant electrical path available on the dual-terminal fan motor. The evaporator motor is defective if there is no electrical flow present, and it will need replacing. Evaporator fan motors normally are unique to a specific refrigerator model.

Before installing any new evaporator fan motor, it is wise to be aware that you may need to reuse the rubber mounts and washers from the old evaporator motor to the new one so it will work/ fit correctly.
