The customer is a leading provider of warehouse automation and robotic assemblies, electric vehicle assemblies, seating systems, mechanical assemblies, structures, and plastic products to the transportation, warehousing, construction equipment, industrial, and recreational vehicle markets.
Before our project engagement, the customer’s wiper system utilized a brushed DC motor. This particular motor generated significant EMI noise, which interfered with the radio and computer systems common in today’s modern fleets. This type of motor technology would typically also have to be replaced at least once. The client needed a brushless motor solution that would reduce EMI noise while also offering performance that would last up to 500,000 miles.
TelcoMotion defined a BLDC motor solution to provide a low EMI footprint that would not interfere with complex vehicular systems. Our solution reduced system costs by removing the need for additional filtering required to isolate the EMI noise of the wiper motors from the rest of the electrical system. The customer was able to achieve enough torque to eliminate additional mechanical components from their system, streamlining their assembly process and eliminating possible points of failure. The total system weight was also reduced. Additionally, the vehicle fleet owners would not have to undergo the cost and hassle of field replacement of motors that fail at inconvenient times, rendering a vehicle inoperable.
