NEMA AC Motors

NEMA motors are a brand of electric motor from the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, which began to standardize motor sizes using specific criteria. NEMA motors have specific speed-torque characteristics that will match the speed-torque needs of various loads, making them very efficient for numerous applications. TelcoMotion’s NEMA series of AC motors are highly efficient, have a large starting torque, are quiet when operating, and have an optimized structure. The mounting type, power class, and performance requirement all comply with NEMA’s stringent standards. Our featured NEMA AC products include the NEMA 42, NEMA 48, and NEMA 56.

Product Features

Energy savings

NEMA AC motors are energy efficient, as they have a program that provides high-efficiency motors to users. They stand by stringent qualifications of premium efficiency to ensure that their electric motors meet the needs and application purposes of their original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

TelcoMotion’s AC motors have a range of frame sizes to maximize your energy output and save you money on your projects.

Enclosures and mounting configuration

At TelcoMotion, we offer a variety of enclosures and mounting configurations to fit your specific project needs. The most common enclosures include:

  • Open drip-proof (ODP)
  • Totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC)
  • Totally enclosed non-ventilated (TENV)
  • Totally enclosed air over (TEAO)
  • Totally enclosed wash down (TEWD)
  • Explosion-proof enclosures (EXPL)
  • Hazardous location (HAZ)

Customizable

At TelcoMotion, we understand that your business and projects are unique. That’s why we offer fully customizable AC motors, which you can build to the specifications you need.

You might need a customizable NEMA AC motor for water pumping machinery, commercial air blowers, conveyor belts, other electrical systems, compressor devices, or another type of application or industry altogether. Whatever your application, having a customized solution will maximize your output and efficiency, which we know is very important for OEMs.

NEMA AC Motors FAQ

NEMA stands for National Electrical Manufacturers Association. The NEMA motor standards are a set of rules for electric motors, including design classes, frame sizes, enclosures, and configurations.

NEMA design classes are categorized into four different classes:

  • NEMA Class A (no more than 5% slip with high-to-medium starting current, normal breakdown torque, and a normal locked rotor torque)
  • NEMA Class B (no more than 5% slip with a low starting current, normal breakdown torque, and high locked rotor torque)
  • NEMA Class C (no more than 5% slip with a low starting current, normal breakdown torque, and high locked rotor torque)
  • NEMA Class D (slip of between 5% and 13% at most with a low starting current and very high locked rotor torque)

NEMA motor sizes have different meanings and will tell you everything from the dimensions, speed, and horsepower for each frame size.

Yes, TelcoMotion offers three different types of NEMA standard motors: the NEMA 42 (NEMA42-AC), the NEMA 48 (NEMA48-AC), and the NEMA 56 (NEMA56-AC).

The IEC stands for International Electrotechnical Commission. They have a set of uniform standards for electric motors that indicate their efficiency classes. IEC standards can help you quickly identify the motor model, performance, and rated limits. They were developed in Europe, but as globalization has brought supply and demand to new countries, these standards are often shown together.

IEC and NEMA standards are fairly similar; however, NEMA standards allow for quite a few variations in specific characteristics. For example, NEMA ratings account for a 15% service factor in electric motors, while the IEC breaks this down into ten different duty types.

NEMA offers AC motors fit for more large-sized devices in North American machines and a wider variety of applications. IEC-rated motors are for more compact devices and are often less expensive and safe for the user, while NEMA requires safety covers.

What’s great about NEMA AC motors is that they are dynamic and adaptable for numerous applications. They will save you money due to their high energy efficiency, can be customized, have a low noise level when running, and are compatible with any inverter.
